What this site is
CarCalTune is a collection of free online estimators for common car maintenance and repair costs: oil changes, brakes, batteries, timing belts, transmissions, AC work, scheduled services and EV comparisons. Each tool runs entirely in your browser — no account, no download. Cost figures are illustrative U.S. budgeting assumptions, not quotes. A dated source table has not been verified for these ranges, so they should not be treated as current national averages.
Who it is for
Car owners sanity-checking a shop quote before authorizing work, and car shoppers exploring how mileage, service choices and the model assumptions affect a maintenance budget. A quote outside a model range does not by itself show overcharging; ask for an itemized explanation of the work, parts and labor.
How our numbers are calculated
- Estimates, not exact prices. Location, vehicle specification, parts choice and shop labor can change a quote.
- Budget assumptions as inputs. The cost bands and service intervals are illustrative assumptions, with parts and labor explained on each page. Some inputs are editable; others are fixed model values. Check your vehicle manual and written local quotes before using a result to plan work.
- A worked example you can verify by hand. Each page walks through an example step by step.
- Honest limitations. Each page states what the tool cannot do.
How content is produced and checked
The calculation steps and worked examples are published so readers can check how the inputs produce a result. An arithmetic check shows whether a result follows the model; it does not verify current market prices or establish the right maintenance schedule for a vehicle. Service guidance linked on a page supports only the stated guidance, not the cost assumptions. Found an error or have a source to suggest? Use the Contact page.
What this site is not
CarCalTune provides planning estimates. It is not a repair manual, not a quote, and not a substitute for a qualified mechanic’s diagnosis. Get a written quote before authorizing any repair. The explanations describe the arithmetic and budget assumptions; they do not establish professional automotive credentials or independently measured market prices.
